Mitroglou strikes winning goal for Marseille
Greek striker Kostas Mitroglou scored his fourth goal of the 2017/2018 Ligue 1 season, helping Marseille defeat Toulouse 2:1 on the road.
The 30-year old Mitroglou has struggled during his debut campaign in France, spending lengthy periods on the sidelines due to injuries. However, just seconds after entering the pitch on 78 minutes in Toulouse, the Greek struck gold for current club Marseille. With the score at 1:1, Mitroglou steered Dimitri Payet’s fierce cross into the unguarded net with a powerful volley. That proved to be the game’s turning point, as Marseille held on for the remaining time to claim an important 2:1 victory.
Often left out of the Marseille starting line-up in Ligue 1, Mitroglou will be hoping that his winning goal in Toulouse helps him receive more playing time in France. Marseille currently occupy third place in Ligue 1, 18 points behind runaway leaders PSG.
