Newcastle ready to increase offer to Benfica for Samaris
England’s Newcastle are set to increase their offer to Benfica for Andreas Samaris’ move to Saint James Park.
Promoted Premier League side, Newcastle, have shown heavy interest in Andreas Samaris this transfer period having already put in a €15 million to Benfica for the player’s transfer. However, the Portuguese champions are asking for an amount close to €20 million to let the player go.
According to Portugal’s “O Jogo,” the English side are expected to increase their offer in the coming days with hopes of a positive response from the Portuguese side. Newcastle coach, Rafa Benitez, wants the Greece international at Saint James Park next season as the club competes in the English top flight after being promoted from the Football League.
Newcastle are not the only English side that has expressed interest in the 28-year old midfielder. According to reports out of Portugal, Everton have also placed a bid to Benfica for Samaris, however their offer was also denied as it was around €15 million.
This could very well be the summer that Andreas Samaris departs from Lisbon after a mediocre season with the club. Samaris lost his place in the starting XI this year, however he did manage to make 32 appearances and give two assists in all competitions.
