Nick Calathes named Euroleague MVP for November
Nick Calathes was named the Euroleague MVP for November after a stellar month with Panathinaikos.
Nick Calathes received the honor for the first time in his career while leading Panathinaikos to five wins from six matches through the course of November. The Greek guard finished the month averaging 14.6 points per game and 9.5 assists per game. His best performance came back on November 16th in Panathinaikos’ narrow 81-82 victory over Efes in Turkey, where Calathes finished with a whopping 29 points, 10 assists, and 9 rebounds. He came one rebound short of the first triple-double in all of the Euroleague since the 2006/07 season.
In addition to his MVP honor, Nick Calathes’ assist to James Gist in Panathinaikos’ Round 5 matchup away to Baskonia was ranked at #1 in the month’s top assists. Calathes provided a pinpoint pass to Gist, who converted the impressive alley-oop midway through the third quarter. See video below.
Panathinaikos currently sit fourth in the Euroleague standings, tied with Fenerbahce with seven wins (Fenerbahce has a better points differential) and are on a 5-game winning streak, the longest of the season in the competition. The Trifylli trail both league leaders, Olympiacos and CSKA Moscow, by just one win after 10 games.
Calathes will be honored for his MVP award during Panathinaikos’ next Euroleague home game on December 15th against Armani Milano.
