Although Nikolaou’s goal was a late consolation for the Greek Superleague champions who fell 3-1, the Olympiacos man became the youngest Greek to score in the UEFA Champions League at 19 years and 2 months old.

The previous record holder was Panathinaikos’ Giourkas Seitaridis who scored a real beauty against Manchester United during the 2001 UEFA Champions League second group stages. Seitaridis’ scored at 19 years and nine months old in the Trifylli’s 1-1 draw against the Red Devils.

Before Nikolaou, Olympiacos’ youngest Greek scorer in the UEFA Champions League was Dimitris Mavrogenidis at the age of 21.  The former Olympiacos player scored in a 2-2 draw against Norway’s Rosenborg in December 1997.
