Nine players make Greece debut versus Saudi Arabia
Nine Greek players made their international debut on Tuesday in Greece’s 2:0 friendly loss to Saudi Arabia.
The nine players included: Risvanis, Nikolaou, Giannoulis (sent off in the 43’), Limnios, Lambropoulos, Manias, Gianniotis, Androutsos, and Galanopoulos. Some of the players were in Skibbe’s starting lineup while others came on as substitutes in Greece’s 2:0 friendly loss to Saudi Arabia. Both Risvanis and Nikolaou played the full ninety minutes.
Skibbe called up many new faces for the friendly matchup as the call-ups consisted of players only from the Greek SuperLeague with the exception of Alexandros Tziolis. No abroad players were called-up due to their obligations at the club level, giving a chance for these Superleague youngsters to make an impression on the German boss.
Atromitos’ Giannoulis set an unwanted record by being the first player in the Ethniki’s history ti be sent off on his debut. The left back was shown a straight red card for a tackle late in the first half.
