GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 10

Atromitos 0 - 0 Panionios

Surprise SuperLeague pacesetters Atromitos were denied a win by Panionios on Saturday in a tense clash in Peristeri which ended goalless, but Damir Canadi’s side’s unbeaten record remains intact, while Xanthi returned to winning form with a 3-1 success at Panaitolikos.

The home side just about shaded an entertaining Matchday 10 contest, and came closest to scoring in the 10th minute when Egypt midfielder Amr Warda hit the post with Panionios goalkeeper Matic Kotnik beaten.

Despite failing to pick up three points, Canadi’s team remain top of the table with 20 points from 10 matches, two points ahead of PAOK who play AEK at the Olympic Stadium in Athens in Sunday’s anticipated derby clash.

There was also a record for young 24-year-old goalkeeper Andreas Gianniotis, who kept a clean sheet for the seventh success match, notching up 729 minutes without conceding a goal.

That feat puts him sixth in the all-time top 10 list, of which former Panathinaikos custodian Takis Oikonomopoulos is top having played 1,088 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal in the 1964/65 season.

Xanthi get back to winning ways against Panaitolikos

Panetolikos 1 - 3 Xanthi
Mazurek 88'

Brito 3',8'
Jendrisek 36'

Xanthi picked up their first win in four games on Saturday courtesy of a 3-1 triumph at Panaitolikos in Agrinio.

Milan Rastavac’s team were in charge from the first whistle in this Matchday 10 clash, with Portuguese forward Brito scoring twice early on in the space of five first half minutes, the first just three minutes in and the second in the eighth minute.

Those strikes knocked the stuffing out of a shell-shocked home side, who have struggled with inconsistent form so far this season.

Xanthi confirmed their dominance with a third goal from Slovakian forward Erik Jendrišek six minutes after the half-hour mark to end the game as a contest, with the home fans getting some slight consolation through Argentine forward Franco Mazurek’s strike two minutes from full-time.

The result propelled Xanthi up to eighth spot in the table with 13 points, while Panaitolikos are 12th with nine points.
