Offers coming in for Moledo & Wakaso, Many others set to be released
Although Panathinaikos’ original plan was to keep the team’s core for the new season, it seems like the Trifylli will undergo some major changes this offseason.
Rodrigo Moledo’s manager recently stated that the player’s wish is to return to his beloved Internacional in Brazil. Moreover, he went on to add that “Inter” have already contacted both him and the player for his move back to Brazil. However, apart from Internacional, Moledo has drawn the interest of Besiktas, who appear willing to offer the player a contract of €1 million per year, but in any case, Panathinaikos have the final word. The player still has a contract with the Prasini, who are not willing to give him up for less than €2-3 million, an amount that Besiktas are not expected to give.
Wakaso’s displays with Granada have drawn the interest of numerous teams from Europe and especially the Premier League. Among them, Stoke City, Swansea, and Redding. With the player ready to appeal against the Prasini for owed money, the transfer rumors of his departure continue on a daily basis. Reports have stated that Reading and Swansea have offered €1 million to the Trifylli and are willing to increase their offers in order to meet the Athenian club’s demands.
Niklas Hult’s was recently approached by Standard Liege and the Belgians made an offer to Panathinaikos for the player. However, Hult stated that he is happy with his current club and kindly rejected Standard Liege’s offer.
It is no news that Panathinaikos would like to clean up their roster and break the contracts of Nuno Reis, Lautaro Rinaldi, Olivier Boumal, Diamantis Chouchoumis, Jens Wemmer, Panagiotis Vlachodimos, and Rasmus Thelander. However, the above players have not come to an agreement with Panathinaikos and are now training separately from the rest of the team until a solution is found. However, the likes of Panagiotis Vlachodimos, Olivier Boumal, and Nikos Giannopoulos are close to resolving their matters with the Prasini.
Vlahodimos appears to be closing in on French side Nimes whereas the young goalkeeper will continue his career with Kerkyra. Boumal will likely reach a deal with the Prasini soon. If negotiations don’t go south and Boumal is released, the Prasini will move for a wing forward with Jeffrey Sarpong (released from Veria) high on the club’s list. Finally, Rasmus Thelander seems willing to “sit” on his current contract, as negotiations with Nikos Lyberopoulos see no light at the end of the tunnel. The Dane demands the amount from next year’s salary in order to break his contract with Panathinaikos.
Nikos Marinakis was released by the club last week and is expected to continue his career at Panaitolikos. Giandomenico Mesto’s departure will be announced in the coming days, as the player has been informed that his contract will not be renewed. As a reminder, Stefanos Kotsolis, Leto, Klonaridis (on loan) and M’Poku (on loan) have already left the club.
Finally, Panathinaikos saw their penalty of a two closed stadium match ban reduced to one for the incidents against PAOK at the Leoforos during the Superleague playoffs. The appeal, however, did not overturn their -3 point deduction from the playoff standings, -2 from next season’s league standings and the fine of €41,500 remained.
