On Friday, The Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) announced that the OAKA Olympic Stadium in Athens will host Greece’s three home matches in the UEFA Nations League this fall. It was rumored that the Ethniki would move from the Karaiskakis stadium (home of Olympiacos) to up north, to the Toumba or Kaftanzoglio stadium, however the federation confirmed that the Attiki region will host Greece’s international matches once again. The federation’s official statement only mentioned the Greece’s matches in the UEFA Nations League and did not refer to the UEFA EURO 2020 qualifying matches, which will begin in March 2019.
The Galanolefki will compete in Group B of League C along with Hungary, Estonia, and Finland. The teams in each group will play in home and away matches, totaling six matches per team. Greece will host Hungary on October 12th, Finland on November 15th, and round up group play against Estonia at home on November 18th. For Greece’s full Group B schedule visit here.
The top team from each group will earn a place in the UEFA Nations League Final-4, which will serve as a last-ditch playoff to qualify for EURO 2020. This playoff will only consist of teams that failed to qualify for the EURO 2020 tournament via the actual qualifying process (begins in March 2019).
