OFFICIAL: Retsos to Bayer Leverkusen
Panagiotis Retsos has joined Bayer Leverkusen in a recording breaking deal which is rumored to have closed at €22 million.
On Thursday morning, Olympiacos officially announced the transfer of Panagiotis Retsos to Bayer Leverkusen in what will be a recording breaking deal not only for the Greek SuperLeague, but in Greek Football. The deal between the two clubs is rumored to have closed at €22 million although reports from Germany state €16 million. The agreement is also said to include a resale clause (15-20%) if Leverkusen decide to sell Retsos in the future,
The 19-year star has been with Olympiacos throughout his youth career and only made 40 appearances with the senior team, most of them last season, before his transfer to Leverkusen. His composure and great abilities, despite his young age, caught the attention of many teams throughout Europe this summer, however Bayer Leverkusen’s persistence and astronomical offers have convinced both Olympiacos and the youngster on a move to the Bundesliga.
Retsos was the youngest player in Olympiacos history to wear the captain’s armband and in June, earned his first call up to the Greek national team.
Olympiacos have turned to Belgian youngster Bjorn Engels as Retsos’ replacement. The 23-year old defender arrived in Greece on Thursday and signed a new deal with the SuperLeague champions.
