Aris dropped points for a second consecutive after playing to a goalless draw with Kallithea while OFI made it eight straight wins in league play. Panachaiki fell victim to a shocking late defeat from Ergotelis.
Aris dropped points for a second consecutive matchday and are now in jeopardy of losing top spot in the Football League. The Thessalonikis played to a disappointing goalless draw against relegation bound Kallithea on the road. The visitors actually scored on three different occasions, but the goals were called off by the officials. Twice, Aris were called rightfully offsides, however on the third occasion in the 75th minute, Diamantopoulos’ goal was wrongfully called back as he was in an onsides position. The result leaves Aris top of the table, but OFI are now just two points adrift the league leaders.
OFI are in full force for promotion after recording yet another easy victory in league play, downing Aiginiakos 0:3 on the road. OFI’s in-form goal scorer, Manos, opened the scoring in the sixth minute of play to give the visitors a 0:1 lead. Koutsianikoulis doubled OFI’s lead three minutes after the restart and a great night in Aiginio concluded with Pourtoulidis’ goal in second-half stoppage time. OFI, who have made it eight wins from eight matches, remain in second place, just two points behind the leaders Aris, and XX INSERT PANACHAIKI.
Panachaiki’s hopes for promotion took a major blow on Thursday as the Patra side fell on the road 2:1 to Ergotelis. The Cretans took an early lead in the third minute of play with Efford finishing off a clever build up from the home side. Before the halftime whistle, Moraitis equalized for Panachaiki with the teams going into the break all level. The match looked to be heading for a draw before a defensive mistake from Panachaiki was acted upon by Stamatakos, who served the ball to Ergotelis’ leading goal scorer, Cuypers, and the striker made no mistake from the top of the box to give Ergotelis all three points in the third minute of stoppage time. The result sees Panachaiki drop to -5 behind second placed OFI and -7 behind the league leaders, Aris, while Ergotelis moved one point clear of the relegation zone.
In other action, Doxa Drama jumped into 5th place with a 0:1 win over Trikala thanks to Goundoulakis’ penalty goal in the 21st minute. The league’s surprise side, Apollon Larissas sit in fourth after dispatching Sparti 2:0 at home, while Apollon Pontou’s good form of late continued on Wednesday with a 2:1 win over Panserraikos. Both Panegialios and Anagennisi Karditsas played to a goalless draw, a result which benefits neither side in their fights to avoid the drop.
AOX Kissamikos and Karaiskakis were awarded all three points over Acharnaikos and Veria, who have both withdrawn from the league.
