Olympiacos defeated Padova 10-4 in the semifinals of the Women’s LEN Trophy to advance to Saturday’s European Final.
The Erythrolefkes had a tough start, as the Italians were ahead 1-2 after the first period of play. The Greeks were able to equalize before halftime, thanks to a goal from captain Triantafyllia Manolioudaki, concluding a low scoring first half.
Olympiacos dominated the third period, which proved decisive in the end, outscoring their opponents 6-1 to take a commanding 8-3 lead. The Greek champions eventually held on in the final period to win 10-4 and book a place in Saturday’s final.
Italian international Giulia Emmolo led Olympiacos with three goals while Alkisti Avramidou and Christina Tsoukala were also key contributors for the Erythrolefkes with two goals each.
In the Final, Olympiacos will face Dunaujvaros of Hungary, who defeated Final Four hosts Mataro of Spain 11-7 in Friday’s other semi-final. The Erythrolefkes are looking for their second LEN Trophy title, after previously winning the competition in 2014. It would mark the fourth overall European title for Olympiacos in women’s water polo, if they are to win tomorrow.
Saturday’s final is scheduled for 16:00 GR (9:00 EST).
