Olympiacos confirm Mirallas loan deal
After releasing photos on social media suggesting that popular Belgian Kevin Mirallas was returning, Greek champions Olympiacos finally confirmed the loan signing of the Belgian forward.
Frozen out of the Everton team during the 2017/2018 English Premier League season, 30-year old Mirallas was eager to start afresh in his career. Following Olympiacos president Evangelos Marinakis’ huge efforts to take the forward back to Olympiacos, Mirallas joined the Piraeus club on loan for the remainder of the campaign. If Mirallas performs well, it’s likely that Olympiacos will pay Everton the required 5.6 million euros to keep him permanently. Mirallas’ Everton contract runs out in 2020.
At his presentation, Mirallas was handed the number 11 to wear on his back. Well loved by Olympiacos after his first stint in Greece five years ago, the forward was given a heroes welcome at Athens airport, with passionate fans surrounding his car. On Olympiacos’ official English website, Mirallas expressed his delight. “Yes, I’m returning home,” stated Mirallas. “I am very, very happy. It’s a great moment for me. I want to thank everyone for their help in my returning: the President, my agent, Francois Modesto, who worked a lot to get me back here. I expect, now, that we continue with victories and conquer trophies!”
Kevin Mirallas previously represented Olympiacos in the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 seasons, scoring an impressive 34 Super League goals. He played for Lille and St. Etienne in France, before moving to Everton from Olympiacos in 2012. Mirallas has made 56 appearances for the Belgian national team, finding the net on ten occasions.
