A strong second half showing saw Olympiacos win away 13-9 at Dynamo Moscow in the LEN Champions League, and clinch first place in Group A.
The Russians got off to a perfect start, going up 3-0 in the first period of play. Olympiacos were able to score three consecutive goals and level the score at 3-3 midway through the second period. At halftime, Dynamo Moscow held a slight lead, as they were up 5-4.
The Erythrolefki were able to turn things around, taking a 9-8 lead after the third period. The Greeks would dominate from then on, as they were victorious by a score of 13-9, completing an impressive comeback. Konstantinos Genidounias and Paulo Obradovic were the top scorers for Olympiacos, with each netting three goals. Alexandros Gounas and Emmanouil Mylonakis were also key contributors on offense for the Erythrolefki, as each scored two goals.
The next game for Olympiacos will be on May 9, as they will host Spain’s Barceloneta in the final round of the group stage. The result there will not impact Olympiacos’ position in the standings, as the Erythrolefki have officially secured first place in Group A. With 34 points after 13 games, Olympiacos can’t be caught by any other team. Barceloneta currently sit in second place in the group, with just 27 points. This means that the Greeks will face the fourth-placed team from Group B in the Final Eight, which beings on June 7 in Genoa, Italy.
