This case begin back on April 1st after Olympiacos defeated Platanias 2-1 in their matchday 26 fixture in the Superleague regular season. At the time, players of Platanias had complained about hostile behaviour from member of Olympiacos and proceeded to an official statement following the referee’s final whistle. After the prosecutor’s intervention, official testimonies from Platanias’ players followed and the Peiraiotes were called in for an apology.
The case went to court and the official penalties were announced on Wednesday. Although Olympiacos faced much heftier consequences including point deductions and even relegation for the incident, the Erythrolefki were punished with a 3-match closed stadium ban.
This decision brings Olympiacos’ closed stadium ban up to five for next season. The Superleague champions have also been punished with a one match closed stadium ban for Francois Modesto’s behaviour in the second Greek Cup semi-final against AEK at the OAKA stadium and a one match ban for the incidents that took place at the Karaiskakis stadium in the first Cup semi-final match against AEK.
Olympiacos’ administration were outraged with the court’s decision as they find the penalty extremely harsh and are expected to lodge an appeal. As of now, the Erythrolefki will play 1/3 of their home matches with no fans next season (5 out of 15).
