Olympiacos hit four past Panaitolikos
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 29
|Olympiacos||4 - 0||Panetolikos|
Dethroned former SuperLeague champions Olympiacos gave their fans some cheer in their final home match of the season on Sunday with a dominant display to defeat Panaitolikos 4-0.
Two more goals from top scorer Karim Ansarifard- which took the Iran striker’s tally for the season to 17 - and further strikes from Alaixys Romao and Kostas Fortounis saw the Erythrolefki claim maximum points at a canter.
The end of the season cannot come soon enough for interim boss Christos Kontis’ team, who have secured third place in the table but will have to settle for Europa League football after missing out on Champions League qualification.
Today at the Georgios Karaiskakis at least, the Olympiacos players gave their fans some cheer in what has been a very poor season by their standards, playing some entertaining football in a comfortable victory.
After making the home side work hard for their opening goal, as soon as Romao broke the deadlock in the 24th minute, Traianos Dellas’ mid-table Panaitolikos team crumbled, letting in three goals before half-time.
Fortounis made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute, before Ansarifard moved back in front in his personal duel with PAOK strike Aleksandar Prijovic for the top scorer crown with two goals in the 37th and 45th minutes.
