Olympiacos into next round of Greek Cup
GREEK SOCCER CUP - GROUP STAGE (MATCHDAY 2)
|Acharnaikos||0 - 3||Olympiacos|
Olympiacos cruised past Acharnaikos 0-3 on Wednesday to secure a place into the next round of the Greek Cup.
It was a straightforward Greek Cup fixture for Olympiacos on Wednesday as they came away with a rather easy victory over Acharnaikos. Takis Lemonis put in a fresh starting XI after two very difficult matches away to Barcelona and at home to PAOK in the Champions League and domestic action. New faces included Milic, Gillet, Tachtsidis, Martins, Kapino (benched after the derby with AEK), and also Vukovic and Emenike who returned from injury.
Nine minutes into the match, a good build up from the visitors sent Gillet in on goal and his half-volley found the back of the net to give Olympiacos an early lead. It was one way traffic as Olympiacos kept up their pressure and two minutes after the restart, Marins tapped-in a rebounded effort to double the Erythrolefki’s lead.
Emenike scored his third goal of the competition in second half stoppage time with a closed ranged header to shape the final 0-3 scoreline. The Nigerian striker, who has been troubled by injury for some time, will be happy to see his name added to the score sheet.
The win sends Olympiacos into the next round of the competition with six points from their first two matches. AOX Kissamikos and Asteras Tripolis will fight for second spot as Acharnaikos were mathematically eliminated from a top-2 finish.
