Olympiacos are still in search of a head coach and details are expected to be released by the end of the week. However, plans for the summer signings cannot be put aside as the coach that will be called to build the 2017-2018 roster must have a list of players at hand.
Sources mention that six starting XI players are likely to be signed over the summer. These players will be expected to be ready and able to help Olympiacos from day one of preseason training which is set to take place in just three weeks. Apart from those six, more players with different characteristics will also be signed to strengthen the roster as a whole.
Although all final decisions will be made by the new head coach, the Erythrolefki seem to be in search of an experienced stopper, a left back with attacking qualities, a creative midfielder, two wing forwards, and one top class striker.
Although it is still early for speculations and names, transfer rumours linking players to Olympiacos have begun. Former Olympiacos midfielder Vladimir Weiss, who is currently playing for Al-Gharafa, seems open to a return to Piraeus and European football.
For the stopper’s position, the Erythrolefki are interested and have made an offer to Fiorentina captain Gonzalo Rodriguez, who will be a free agent at the end of the season. Striker Felipe Mora of Universidad de Chile has also been linked with a move to Olympiacos.
The Superleague champions are keen on bringing Konstantinos Laifis back to the club after a loan spell at Standard Liege despite having one year remaining on his contract with the Belgian side.
As for the position of the defensive midfielder, Alaixys Romao will likely remain at the club after a good second half of the season. Backup options will be Saša Zdjelar (on loan at Mallorca) and Manolis Siopis, who has already agreed to a move to Olympiacos from Panionios.
A clearer picture will be given when Olympiacos choose their head coach for next season.
