Olympiacos lose 100 per cent record in Xanthi draw
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 3
|Xanthi||1 - 1||Olympiacos|
|Lisgaras 43'||Engels 12'|
Olympiacos dropped their first points of the new SuperLeague season on Saturday as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Xanthi in an entertaining match at the Pigadia stadium.
The reigning champions had started well with Bjorn Engels heading in a Kostas Fortounis corner after just 12 minutes, but Xanthi found back impressively and levelled matters two minutes before half-time through Christos Lisgaras.
More than the equalizer, however, Xanthi showed that they will once again be a force to reckon with in the 2017/18 campaign with a strong second half performance which could have seen the hosts take the three points.
Xanthi surely would have done just that had it not been for the fine form of Olympiacos goalkeeper Stefanos Kapino, who made several key saves in the second half.
Olympiacos were rightly aggrieved, however, when the referee missed a clear handball by Lisgaras in the first half when the scores were locked at 0-0.
The result means that although Olympiacos remain at the top of the table they could be knocked off their perch by Panionios if the Panthers beat Panaitolikos at home on Sunday.
