The Greek champions quickly saw themselves in front early on, as they led 0-2 in the first period, thanks to two goals from Gounas at the start of the game. The Germans did not give up easily though, as they were able to cut the deficit to just one goal by halftime, with the Erythrolefki narrowly in front by a score of 3-4.
However, Olympiacos showed once again why they are a global powerhouse in Europe, as they comfortably increased their lead during the second half. After the third period, the Greek champions found themselves up 5-8. They would end the game with a 7-12 win.
Ioannis Fountoulis was Olympiacos’ leading scorer with three goals. Alexandros Gounas and Emmanouil Mylonakis were also big on the offensive end, each netting two goals.
Olympiacos are still in first place out of eight teams in Group A, with 22 points after 9 matches. They are four points ahead of second-placed CNA Barcelonata, who have 18 points. The next match for Olympiacos will be on March 14, as they will host OSC Budapest.
