Last year’s EuroLeague finalists continue to struggle away from home following their fourth defeat in their last four away games on Friday night…
Olympiacos’ struggled away from the Peace & Friendship Stadium continue as the Piraeus giants were handed an 89-78 loss by Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade in the Serbian capital on Friday night.
Led by backup point guard Dylan Ennis, who tallied 21 points off the bench, Crvena Zvezda improved 8-12 on the season – though the Serbian giants still remain well outside the playoff picture.
Vassilis Spanoulis led Olympiacos with 16 points on the night, while Kostas Papanikolaou was all over the stat sheet with 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Olympiacos bounced back in the third quarter to erase a halftime deficit before taking a 63-57 lead into the fourth quarter much thanks to 29-14 run in the third frame.
Crvena Zvezda responded with their own lopsided run in the fourth quarter. The Serbians stunned Olympiacos with a 32-15 run in the final frame to claim a massive upset by the final buzzer.
Losers of their last four away from home, Olympiacos have fallen from contending for first place in the standings to having to settle for fifth place in the league – though the Erythrolefki are tied with Real Madrid and Panathinaikos at 13-7 through 20 rounds of action.
Olympiacos will look to improve on their record when the Erythrolefki return home to face Fenerbahce in a second rematch of last season’ EuroLeague final, one day before Crvena Zvezda visit Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz in Spain.
