Olympiacos sign new left-back with Milic
Hrvoje Milic is the newest addition to the Olympiacos roster after signing a deal with the Erythrolefki.
Olympiacos completed a rather quick signing with Croatian left back Hrvoje Milic on Sunday. The 28-year old moved from Fiorentina to the SuperLeague champions in a deal rumored at €1.5 million. Milic, who is an attacking minded defender, will take the place of Alberto de la Bella as the Spaniard is not in Hasi’s plans for the upcoming season and is close to a move back to Spain for Real Sociedad.
Milic began his career in Croatia with Hajduk Split (2006-09) before moving to Sweden for Djurgarden where he remained for one season (2009-10). He returned to Croatia for two seasons (2011-13) with Istra 1961 where his good performances earned him a move to Russia for Rostov. Despite being a consistent choice in Rostov’s starting line-up for two seasons (2013-15) he once again returned to Croatia for Hajduk Split for the 2015-16 season.
Last season, he played in the Italian Serie A for Fiorentina where he made 14 appearances, mainly in the first half of the season, before losing his place in the club’s starting line-up after the winter break. He also made 6 appearances in the UEFA Europa League, including one against PAOK in Florence.
Milic as six caps for his country from 2013-14 but has not been called up for his nation since then.
Milic will look to quickly integrate himself into the Olympiacos environment, taking the place of Alberto de la Bella, with the Erythrolefki set to give their first big game of the season on Tuesday against Partizan in UEFA Champions League qualifying.
