Olympiacos used a dominant third quarter to power past Khimki Moscow Region 92-75 on Thursday night to stay unbeaten in the EuroLeague after four rounds of action.
Nikola Milutinov and Georgios Printezis lead the way with 32 points combined between the pair as the return of Ioannis Bartzokas to the Peace of Friendship Stadium was a night to forget for the former Olympiacos coach.
Olympiacos, who continue to be without Vassilis Spanoulis, saw Printezis step to the forefront again as Olympiacos started brightly in the first quarter with a 10-2 run fueled by Printezis on the defensive end and Milutinov on the offensive end. Khimki would bounce back shortly after, however, as the Olympiacos margin was just two points (22-20) after the first quarter.
Olympiacos would start strong again in the second quarter, but Khimki took their first lead of the game moments after the restart as Thomas Robinson put the visiting Russians in front. That lead wouldn’t last long as Olympiacos surged to a 15-2 run with clutch baskets coming from the likes of Vangelis Mantzaris and Hollis Thompson. Khimki would respond with a few late baskets in the quarter to keep the halftime score slightly more respectable at 49-40.
After the interval, Olympiacos would extend their lead very quickly as the Erythrolefki went on a 10-0 run, sparked by Milutinov’s emphatic dunk en route to a 74-55 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Olympiacos were in cruise control by the time the fourth quarter rolled around, but Khimki did their best to keep with the Piraeus giants. Regardless of their best efforts, Khimki were already determined second best on the night as Olympiacos kept most of its lead intact in the fourth quarter.
The win puts Olympiacos at 4-0 alongside Real Madrid atop the EuroLeague standings, with the Spanish side ahead on just point differential.
Round 5 in the EuroLeague sees Olympiacos tip-off against Barcelona in Spain, while Khimki also travel to Spain as the Russians will take-on Real Madrid.
