The Greek champions hoped to continue their eight-match undefeated European run, as they traveled to Croatia to get their second win over Jug Dubrovnik this season. Things seemed to be going their way after taking an early 0-1 lead. However, the Croatians would bounce back from a slow early start to end the first period with a 4-2 lead. They would then extend their lead, as they were up 6-3 by halftime.
Dubrovnik’s lead reached 8-4 during the third period, but three successive Olympiacos goals reduced it to 8-7 and put the Reds right back in the game. Despite a late Olympiacos comeback, the Croatians would hold on for a 10-8 lead to hand the Greeks their first loss of the season.
Greek Ioannis Fountoulis and Croatian Andro Buslje were the top scorers for Olympiacos, with two goals each. Despite the loss, Olympiacos still remain in first place in Group A, three points in front of second-placed AN Brescia. The next game for Olympiacos will be on February 28, as they will travel to Germany to face Waspo 98 Hannover.
