Olympiacos used a massive third quarter to seal a comfortable win over last place Panionios in Piraeus, while there was late drama in Kolossos as Panathinaikos narrowly avoided defeat in Rhodes.
After a shock loss in Lithuania midweek, Olympiacos returned to winning ways with a routine performance against a struggling Panionios side. Hollis Thompson tallied 24 points to lift Olympiacos to an 87-65 win at the Peace & Friendship Stadium in Piraeus. The Erythrolefki used a 20-6 run in the third quarter to emphasize the win, which sees the Piraeus side end 2017 in second place at 8-2. Panionios, who have just one win all season, were led by Dejan Kravic’s 13 points; however, the Panthers’ scoring woes was the least of their problems on a night when Olympiacos’ offense was clicking. While the outcome was decided rather early in Piraeus, in Rhodes it was a much different story as Panathinaikos narrowly avoided their first loss of the season with a 72-71 win over Kolossos. A 11-0 stretch in the fourth quarter saw Panathinaikos turnaround a seven-point deficit as the Trifylli escaped from Rhodes with their unbeaten start to the season still intact. James Gist tallied 14 points for Panathinaikos, while Nikos Calathes added 10 assists to his six-point evening. Malcolm Griffin, who had the opportunity to end the night with a buzzer-beating winner for Kolossos, finished with 20 points for the home side. Highlights can be found here...
