Olympiacos came up short 3-1 in the away leg of the CEV Challenge Cup final against Bunge Ravenna.
The Italians had a slight advantage in the first set, as they led 19-16 at one point. Four consecutive points from Olympiacos would see the tide turn, as the Greeks went ahead 19-20. Ultimately, the hosts would narrowly win the first set by a score of 26-24.
In the second set, Olympiacos got off to a good start, leading 9-14. They would continue to hold this lead, finding themselves up 13-18 later on in the set. Some errors from Olympiacos saw the Italians come back to cut the deficit to 22-23. However, the visitors would hold on to win the set 23-25 and level the match at one set apiece.
Olympiacos held a 6-9 lead during the early stages of the third set, but the Italians would quickly turn it around and jump in front by a score of 11-10. At one point, both teams were level at 15-15, before four straight points from Ravenna saw them go ahead 19-15. The hosts were able to hold on and win the set 25-20.
The fourth set was as closely contested as possible, with neither team being able to gain a sizable lead. Olympiacos did go up 10-13 and 11-15, but the Italians would turn it around to take a 19-17 lead. The Greeks were able to win five consecutive points to take a 19-22 lead, but the Italians would win six of the last seven points to take the set 25-23 and go into the second leg with a 3-1 victory in the first leg.
The second leg will take place on April 11 in Piraeus at the famous Peace and Friendship Stadium (SEF). The Erythrolefki can emerge victorious either with a 3-0 win, or a 3-1 win with a win in the golden set.
