Panathinaikos bid farewell to Ouzounidis
Panathinaikos will be on the search for a new manager as the club issued a statement highlighting its “gratefulness” of Marinos Ouzounidis for all of his efforts in a season littered with trouble and wish him all the best in the future. This came after the most recent meeting on Wednesday which was held in good climate.

Vasilis Konstantinou thanked the former Panathinaikos defender saying he “honoured the club with all his strength and made every effort to present a respectable team in the circumstances, playing good football along the way”. Konstantinou also thanked the players that stayed behind and continued with the same passion, as well as the medical staff.
Ouzounidis was present at the ‘final team dinner’ conducted by Odisseas Vlachodimos (due to his imminent move to Benfica). He thanked the players for staying and giving it their all, and said the aim from here should be to “return the club to its high standing”. The bond between Ouzounidis and th playing group is incredibly strong as evidenced by the photos on social media uploaded by Vlachodimos. There was a cake in honour of Ouzounidis that read “history is written and not forgotten, during the hardship you were the hero and brave one”.
From here, the club is expected to announce the acquisition of a new Greek manager within the next few days. Giorgos Donis is the favourite at this stage as he has already met with Giannis Alafouzos.
Meanwhile, the risk of further appeals from disgruntled players is a real possibility as overdue funds are yet to be transferred. Luciano has already indicated he will not return to the club as he is still owed money from September of last year and felt as if the club has inadequately respected him.
