Marinos Ouzounidis’ players were simply frozen out - literally and metaphorically - as the home side produced a powerful first half display scoring three times to effectively end the game as a contest at half-time.
Spanish forward Piti bagged a double, scoring in the fifth minute and on the stroke of half-time, his second strike sandwiching an effort by Athanasios Panteliadis’ in the 42d minute.
The Greens rallied in the second half and pulled a goal back after 82 minutes with Guillermo Molins on target to make it 3-1. But the hosts added a fourth through Marko Blazic in the last minute to compound a miserable night for PAO.
The outcome means that Ouzounidis’ players have a mountain to climb in the return leg after the Christmas break, needing to win 3-0 at home if they are to progress to the quarter-finals.
