Panathinaikos’ perfect start to the Greek Basket League continues after the titleholders pulled-off an emphatic 92-57 win over Koroivos at OAKA on Sunday.
Lukas Lekavicius led Panathinaikos scorers with 14 points on a night where scoring was distributed throughout the Panathinaikos line-up.
Shaquille Hines posted 16 points for Koroivos, but the American’s efforts made little impact as five of Koroivos’ players were held scoreless in the Greek capital.
Panathinaikos establish a comfortable lead early on with a 24-12 run in the opening frame, before the lead grew to 16 points by halftime (45-29).
Panathinaikos’ defense was the protagonist to start the second half with Koroivos limited to just 11 points in the third quarter en route to a 25-11 run for Panathinaikos in the frame.
With his side firmly in front at 70-40 to start the fourth quarter, Xavi Pascual opted to rest many of his regulars in the fourth quarter; however, that didn’t slow down Panathinaikos’ offense as the Greek Champions further extended their lead to 35 points by the final buzzer.
Pascual’s men improved to 11-0 on the season, and with the win – coupled with Olympiacos’ loss against PAOK – extended their advantage atop the league standings to three points over arch-rivals Olympiacos and surprise package Lavrio.
Panathinaikos return to EuroLeague action midweek against Spanish giants Barcelona before clashing with local rivals AEK next weekend. Meanwhile, Koroivos will look to pick up just their second win in eight games when Kymis visit Amaliada.
