Panathinaikos opt for more ‘Payne’
In a bid to turnaround their EuroLeague campaign, Panathinaikos are set to make a second splash in the transfer market and bring back Adreian Payne for a second stint with the club…
Panathinaikos are set to make a second swoop in the international transfer market in the space of a week as the Trifylli have reportedly reached an agreement with Adreian Payne.
In a move similar to last season, Panathinaikos are expected to sign Payne to a contract for the remainder of the 2018/2019 season as the Athenians desperately push to bounce back from their poor start to the EuroLeague season.
Payne, who last played for China’s Nanjing Tongxi Monkey King at the end of last season, spent the latter half of the 2017/2018 season with Panathinaikos following his arrival in the Greek capital in early February 2018.
A Michigan State alumnus, Payne made 12 EuroLeague appearances for Panathinaikos while also helping the club retain their Basket League crown by providing added depth off the bench for then head coach Xavi Pascual.
Payne’s arrival will mark the second acquisition made by Panathinaikos after the Trifylli acquired Sean Kilpatrick after the NBA journeyman was available on a free transfer following his release from the Chicago Bulls last July.
Panathinaikos’ activity on the transfer market add to the long list of changes at Panathinaikos, which began when the club sacked Pascual and appointed Rick Pitino as the Spaniard’s successor as head coach.
