Following last week’s acquisition of Adreian Payne, Panathinaikos further bolstered their squad with the return of Mike James to the club nearly seven months after leaving the Trifylli for a move to the NBA.
James signed with the Phoenix Suns of the NBA last July after a short, but successful one-year stint with Panathinaikos last term, in which the Trifylli notched a domestic double.
Despite an impressive start to his NBA career in Phoenix, competition within the squad and poor performances from James prompted the Suns to release James from his contract.
Following his release from the Suns, James signed a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans on 18 January; however, the club opted to waive the 27-year-old after just four appearances.
James’ release from the Pelicans opened the door for a return to Panathinaikos, despite reported interest from clubs in Asia.
James will certainly be keen to add to his trophy haul with Panathinaikos with another league title, but will also be keen on a triumph in the EuroLeague after bitterly missing out of a Final Four berth last season.
