Panathinaikos sign Sylla, Mounier and Hiljemark next in line
Panathinaikos have completed their 10th signing of the summer with Yacouba Sylla, who will replace former captain Carlos Zeca in the Greens’ midfield. Anthony Mounier and Oscar Hiljemark are next in line to sign with the Prasini, two experienced players that are expected to up Panathinaikos’ level for the new season.
After Carlos Zeca’s move to FC Kobenhavn, Panathinaikos quickly found his replacement with Mali international Yacouba Sylla. The 26-year old signed a one year loan deal with Panathinaikos from French side Rennes.
Sylla began his professional career with French Ligue 2 club Clermont (2010-2013) where he made 70 appearances with one assist, before moving to the English Premier League for Aston Villa (2013-2015). At Villa, he made 24 appearances with 2 assists and played one season on loan in the Turkish Superleague with Kayseri Erciyesspor (2014-2015, 17 appearances and 1 goal). In 2015, he moved to Rennes (23 appearancs, 2 assists) before playing on loan last season at Montpellier where he recorded 20 league appearances with one goal.
He is also an active Mali international and has 22 caps to his name for his country. He will travel to Mali for international fixtures and will return to Greece after the break to join the rest of his teammates at Panathinaikos.
Panathinaikos are moving in full speed before the transfer window closes tomorrow as the Prasini are close to completing two very important signings with Anthony Mounier and Oscar Hiljemark.
At the delight of coach Marinos Ouzounidis, Mounier is en route to Greece to sign a 3-year deal with the Prasini. The experienced winger, who has played at Lyon, Nice, and Montpellier, was Ouzounidis’ number one target to enhance Panathinaikos’ attacking line and looks as if his wishes will be fulfilled. Mounier and Panathinaikos reached an agreement after 10 days of negotiations which saw the 29-year old decrease his demands to €450,000 a year. He will be released by his current team, Bologna, for a small fee and join the Athenian club.
In addition to Mounier, Oscar Hiljemark is close to a move to Panathinaikos. The 25-year old midfielder will join the Trifylli on a one year loan contract from Italian side Genoa and will arrive in Greece on Thursday morning to sign his new deal. Hiljemark is an experienced central midfielder who has the ability to make a difference in the midfield with seasons at PSV and Italy (Palermo and Genoa) under his belt. He is a key player for Sweden’s national team and at the youth level, celebrated the U21 European championship title in 2015.
