Panathinaikos suffer travel sickness in Tripolis
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 10
|Asteras Tripolis||1 - 0||Panathinaikos|
Panathinaikos’ travel sickness reared its ugly head once more on Saturday as the Greens slumped to a poor 1-0 away defeat at Asteras Tripolis, in another disappointing away performance from Marinos Ouzounidis’ team.
Argentine midfielder Juan Munafo scored the only goal of the game six minutes from time to seal a superb win for Savvas Pantelidis’ battling home side, who move out of the bottom two and into 12th place with nine points.
Panathinaikos remain seventh but are now seven points behind leaders Atromitos, while AEK, PAOK and Olympiacos all play tomorrow and will be expecting to pick up wins to stretch their advantage over the Greens.
The result is all the more disappointing for Panathinaikos, since it comes just one week after they celebrated a well-deserved 1-0 derby win over eternal rivals Olympiacos.
Ouzounidis’ sorry troops were unrecognisable at the Theodoros Kolokotronis stadium from the side which produced the derby win at the Apostolos Nikolaidis, and the Trifili have much work to do if they are to improve on their dire away record.
In five matches away from their Athens home, Panathinaikos have yielded a woeful return of three defeats and two draws.
