PAOK close to completing impressive signing with Mauricio
PAOK are close to completing their biggest signing of the summer with Brazilian midfielder Mauricio. The 28-year old will arrive in Greece to sign a 3-year deal with the Dikefalos tou Vorra.
After signing El Kaddouri late last week, PAOK are close to signing another player to strengthen their midfield. Maurício Jose da Silveira Junior (Mauricio) will be arriving in Greece on Tuesday to work out final details with PAOK and sign a 3-year deal with the Dikefalos tou Vorra. The former Zenit man was released by the Russian club in July after making 30 appearances with 4 goals scored last season.
Mauricio will be PAOK’s biggest and most expensive signing of the summer and has agreed to a contract with annual earnings of €1.3 million (originally asked for €2 million a year). According to sources, the contract will also include a €10 million buy-out clause for any club interested in signing the player from PAOK. Mauricio’s name drew the interest of many clubs around Europe this summer, including Valencia, Anderlecht, and Hoffenheim but he decided to continue his career in Thessaloniki with PAOK.
Mauricio began his career with Brazilian side Fluminense in 2007 and made 52 appearances for the club with two goals scored. In 2009, he moved to Russia for Terek Grozny where he remained until 2016 before making a big career jump to Russian giants Zenit. Mauricio made his name known with Terek Grozny as he scored 29 goals in 169 appearances for the club.
After Mauricio, PAOK will continue strong in the summer transfer window and will surely look to sign a center back before the end of the month. Adelino Vieirinha’s name is always an option for the attacking line while the Dikefalos tou Vorra might also pursue a striker after Stefanos Athanasiadis departed for Maccabi Haifa.
