PAOK denied win by Krizman late show in Larissa
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 6
|Larissa||1 - 1||PAOK|
|Krizman 89''||Matos 44'|
Sandi Križman netted a crucial equalizer a minute from full-time as SuperLeague strugglers Larissa clinched a 1-1 draw with PAOK, who were denied the chance to move to the top of the table in the process.
PAOK looked to be well on their way to chalking up a third successive win in Saturday’s late game at the AEL FC Arena after Brazilian defender Leo Matos scored just before half-time.\
But Križman levelled matters just two minutes after PAOK had young Greece Under-21 striker Efthimis Koulouris sent-off in a closely-contested Matchday 6 clash. Koulouris was correctly shown the red card after elbowing Larissa’s Croatian defender Nikola Žižić.
There were some shameful scenes at the final whistle when the outspoken Larissa owner Alexis Kougias appeared to spit at PAOK’s Moroccan midfielder Omar El Kaddouri as the two shared a heated exchange.
It remains to be seen whether there will be any disciplinary measures taken through the use of video evidence.
A victory would have seen Razvan Lusecu’s team climb above AEK to the summit but instead PAOK’s inability to win away from their Toumba stadium home reared its ugly head.
As a result PAOK do move second with 12 points, but AEK can extend their advantage when they play Asteras Tripolis on Sunday, while Panionios, who are just one points behind PAOK, can also move ahead of them if they beat Lamia away on Monday.
The draw follows two previous 0-0 away draws at Apollon Smyrnis and Levadiakos for PAOK.
For Larissa, their season back in the big time following promotion from the Football League is proving to be a huge struggle, as although they move off the foot of the table, they have just three points from six matches.
