PAOK named best Greek team in the Europa League

PAOK were listed amongst the top 20 teams in the history of the UEFA Europa League and former UEFA Cup from 1971 to 2017. They rank far better than any other Greek team with AEK and Panathinaikos falling in 58th and 59th place.

According to the Europa League statistics released by UEFA, PAOK find themselves as one of the competition’s elite teams. The Dikefalos tou Vorra were named the 18th best team in the competition’s history from 1971-2017 out of a list of 943 teams that have participated in the Europa League and the former UEFA Cup.

The Thessalonikis have made 24 appearances in the competition since 1971 and have earned 142 points in 130 games with 51 victories, 40 draws, and 39 defeats. Their goal difference is at +37 with 182 goals forced and 145 goals against.

AEK are the second best Greek team in 58th place with 101 points from 23 appearances, while Panathinaikos are closely behind in 59th place with 100 points in 21 appearances. Olympiacos follow their three rivals, sitting in 85th place with 21 appearances and 82 points.

OFI in 300th (4 appearances - 18 points)

Olympiacos Volou in 484th (1 appearance - 7 points)
Panachaiki in 574th (1 appearance - 5 points)
Aigaleo in 627th (1 appearance - 4 points)
Larissa in 577th (3 appearances - 5 points)
Xanthi in 633rd (4 appearances - 4 points)
PAS Giannina in 703rd (1 appearance - 2 points)
Apollon Smyrnis in 712nd (1 appearance - 2 points)
Ionikos (1 appearance - 0 points).

Inter Milan were the highest ranked team with 221 points in 26 appearances, while the top 5 included Club Brugge (195 points in 28 appearances), Tottenham Hotspur (192 points in 15 appearances), Sporting Lisbon (191 points in 30 appearances) and Anderlecht (181 points in 20 appearances).
