The Turks got off to a good start, taking an 8-12 lead early on in the first set in Thessaloniki. However, PAOK would respond by winning seven consecutive points to go ahead 15-12. They would continue this momentum, closing out the set 25-16. Halkbank would respond by taking the second set by the same score, to level the match at 1-1.
In a closely-contested third set, PAOK would win four consecutive points from 22-24 down to take the set 26-24, saving two set points along the way. The two-time defending Turkish champions would not go down without a fight, quickly racing to a 5-10 lead in the fourth set. PAOK would respond by coming back to take a 13-12 lead, and eventually closing it out 25-20 to record their first Champions League win of the season.
PAOK’s final game of the group stage will take place on February 28, as they will host Sastamala from Finland. In their previous meeting back in December, Sastamala prevailed 3-2. PAOK will need to win this time to hope to advance to the playoffs as one of the best third-placed teams.
