PAOK put themselves firmly in the driving seat in their Europa League playoff tie against Ostersund on Thursday after coming from a goal down to defeat their Swedish opponents 3-1 in the first leg at the Toumba.
New PAOK coach Razvan Lucescu’s first match in the dugout did not get off to the best of starts as his team fell behind in the 21st minute to Brwa Nouri’S penalty. The Iranian midfielder dispatched the spot-kick after PAOK goalkeeper Rodrigo Rey was penalized for a foul on Hosam Aiesh.
The home side roused themselves, however, and pulled level in the 38th minute through Léo Matos. PAOK were on top for long spells in the second half and began to pepper the Ostersund goal with shots.
It was only a matter of time before PAOK got themselves in front, and a goal finally came in the 77th minute, Aleksandar Prijovic scoring from a neat assist from Djalma Campos.
The home side did not stop there, however, and sealed a fine comeback two minutes from time from the penalty spot. Prijovic slotted home the spot-kick after Ostersund goalkeeper Aly Keita fouled PAOK forward Henrique.
PAOK now simply need to finish the job with a composed performance in the away leg in Sweden next Thursday to ensure their name is in the draw for the group stage on August 25.
