Serbia held on to the 1-0 win to mathematically win group D and check their ticket to Russia 2018. After the game, the PAOK striker stated “It was the best goal of my career. I still can’t believe it. This was a dream that I had as a young child and now it has come true. Once I scored, I thanked God for all these great years as I waited for this chance. Believe me, I couldn't breath during my celebrations. We gave great joy to our fans and to our whole nation.”

Ireland finished as the runner-ups in Group D after defeating Euro 2016 semi-finalists, Wales, 0-1 and will join Greece in the playoffs (if Greece defeat Gibraltar) as an unseeded side in the draw.
