PAOK’s Prijovic sends Serbia to World Cup
Aleksandar Prijovic was the hero for Serbia on Monday as his goal sent the Serbians to the 2018 World Cup with a 1-0 win over Georgia.
The PAOK man came on in the 61st minute and thirteen minutes later, he scored the winning goal for Serbia in a 1-0 win over Georgia. Prijovic got on the end of Mitrovic’s cross and did well to put it the ball past the Georgian goalkeeper as the stadium erupted with excitement.
Serbia held on to the 1-0 win to mathematically win group D and check their ticket to Russia 2018. After the game, the PAOK striker stated “It was the best goal of my career. I still can’t believe it. This was a dream that I had as a young child and now it has come true. Once I scored, I thanked God for all these great years as I waited for this chance. Believe me, I couldn't breath during my celebrations. We gave great joy to our fans and to our whole nation.”
Ireland finished as the runner-ups in Group D after defeating Euro 2016 semi-finalists, Wales, 0-1 and will join Greece in the playoffs (if Greece defeat Gibraltar) as an unseeded side in the draw.
