Papastathopoulos: “I am Well, We Are in a State of Shock”
Sokratis Papastathopoulos stated that he is ok physically, but in a state of shock after a device exploded near Dortmund's bus in a targeted attacked before their Champions League fixture against Monaco.
Three explosives that shattered windows and injured a player on the Borussia Dortmund team bus as the German football squad was en route to its home Champions League match were part of a targeted attack on Tuesday. The incident occurred 13km away from the Westfalenstadion resulting in the game’s postponement until Wednesday.
The only player to be injured in the attack was Spanish defender Marc Bartra, 26, who suffered injuries to the arm and hand and underwent surgery.
Greece’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos was also on the bus but thankfully left the scene unharmed. After the incident, he said to SPORT FM and OTE Sport “We are ok physically, however not psychologically. We are scared and in shock. It is a very difficult situation.”
Sokratis and Dortmund will now turn their focus (as much as they can) to today’s match against Monaco.
