GREEK SOCCER CUP - LAST 16 (LEG 2)
|PAS Giannina||4 - 0||Levadiakos|
There was drama in the 2017/2018 Greek Cup Last 16, as PAS Giannina recovered from a first leg deficit to ease past a sorry Levadiakos side 4:1 on aggregate, while Xanthi failed to complete a memorable comeback against Xanthi.
Having lost the first match 0:1 against Levadiakos because of a last minute goal, hosts PAS Giannina were hungry to make amends in front of their home fans. Their aggressive start in Ioannina was rewarded with two quickfire markers towards the end of the first half. Themistoklis Tzimopoulos opened the scoring on 31 minutes, with Pedro Conde doubling Giannina’s advantage shortly afterwards.
Spanish forward Conde then grabbed another goal in the second half, practically finishing the tie as a contest. Iraklis Garoufalias found the net in the dying moments of stoppage time, sealing Giannina’s progress 4:1 on aggregate.

At the same time, Xanthi aimed to overturn a 0:3 first leg handicap against AEL Larissa. Dimitrios Meliopoulos gave the home team hope of an unlikely turnaround, hitting the target on 27 minutes.
Xanthi piled the pressure on AEL, registering thirteen shots on goal compared to the opponents’ three. Salimo Sylla scored midway through the second half, meaning that Xanthi needed only one more goal to take it to overtime. However, despite boasting 64% of possession, Xanthi couldn’t net a third. In the closing stages, AEL were reduced to nine men after two red cards, but Xanthi also lost a player due to a sending off.
