Pjanic ruled out for qualifiers against Belgium and Estonia
Bosnia will be without their star midfielder Miralem Pjanic for their final two World Cup qualifiers against Belgium and Estonia.
Pjanic suffered a muscle injury on Wednesday during Juventus’ pre-game warm-up routine in preparation for their UEFA Champions League fixture against Olympiacos. The injury, which sidelined him for the matchup against Olympiacos, proved to be much more serious after the medical test results revealed a muscle strain on his right knee, which will keep the midfielder sidelined for 3-4 weeks.
The 27-year old will be unavailable for Bosnia’s final two qualifiers at home to Bosnia (7-Oct) and away to Estonia (10-Oct), which is good news for the Greek camp. Bosnia currently sit second in Group H of World Cup qualifying and currently have the upper hand over our national team for second spot in the group.
Greece are hoping for a Bosnia slip up on Saturday versus Belgium (or next Tuesday against Estonia) to reclaim second spot with hopes of earning a place in November’s playoffs. Pjanic’s absence for Bosnia will surely make things more difficult for Greece’s Group H rivals when they matchup against the group leaders Belgium, who have called up their full squad for their remaining matches.
