Olympiacos were defeated 11-8 in the quarterfinals of the LEN Champions League Final-6 and were eliminated from the this year’s tournament.
Last year’s runner-ups, Olympiacos, suffered an early elimination in this year’s LEN Champions League Final-6 after falling to Dubrovnik 11-8 in today’s quarterfinal matchup. Dubrovnik, who defeated Olympiacos in last year’s Champions League final, got off to a fantastic start to pull ahead 5-1 and 7-2 in the first half.
After the halftime break, Olympiacos went on a great run to pull within one goal of their opponents 7-6, however Dubrovnik re-took a commanding three goal lead and celebrated an 11-8 victory in the end.
Olympiacos’ poor start to the match proved costly in their run for a second European title in club history after coming up short in last year’s final against Croatian club. The Erythrolefki will play Brescia in the 5th/6th place matchup tomorrow while the defending champions will go on to play in the semi-final.
