Prijovic’s Beauty Takes Down 10-Man Panionios
GREEK superleague playoffs - MATCHDAY 3
|PAOK||1 - 0||Panionios|
PAOK came away with a narrow 1-0 home win over 10-man Panionios at the Toumba in a tight Matchday 3 contest.
A goal from Serbian striker Aleksandar Prijović with 15 minutes left proved enough to seal all three points for Vladan Ivic’s side, who could actually have come away with a bigger win had it not been for the woodwork.
Panionios finished the match with 10 players after Iranian midfielder Masoud Shojaei was dismissed for picking up a second yellow card in the 68th minute.
Both Dutch midfielder Diego Biseswar and Greece international midfielder Dimitris Pelkas were denied by the frame of the goal in the first half and second half respectively, but it was not all one-way traffic in Salonica.
Panionios made the early running and both striker Giorgos Masouras and midfielder Manolis Siopis were denied by PAOK goalkeeper Panagiotis Glykos in the first half.
Vladan Milojevic’s team could not muster up an equaliser despite applying some late pressure, with PAOK holding firm for a win which moved them to the top of the playoffs standings with five points.
Panionios, for whom the match represented their first defeat of the playoffs, are second with four points.
