A dominant team performance helped Olympiacos cruise to a lopsided 98-77 win over Herbalife Gran Canaria in Thursday night’s EuroLeague action at the Peace and Friendship Stadium.
Vassilis Spanoulis poured in 21 points and 8 assists as he led all Olympiacos scorers on a nigh the club extended their win streak to three games.
Georgios Printezis mustered 16 points and Zach LeDay added a further 12 points as six Olympiacos players finished in double figures.
Siim-Sander Vene led Gran Canaria with 15 points as the Spanish side struggled to cope with Olympiacos’ pressure at both ends of the court en route to their second loss of the week.
Olympiacos established a healthy six-point lead in the furst quarter on the heels of a 20-14 run in the opening frame.
David Blatt’s side would blow the game wide-open in the second quarter with a dominant 32-19 run which saw the Erythrolefki hold a 52-33 lead by halftime.
Gran Canaria were able to execute some damage control in the second half as the EuroLeague debutants capitalized on Olympiacos’ push to maximize their bench. Despite the involvement of Olympiacos’ bench in the second half, the Piraeus giants still managed to stay in cruise control all the way to the final buzzer.
The win helps Olympiacos keep pace with Anadolu Efes for fourth place in the standings and the final home advantage berth for the playoffs.
