Olympiacos fell 73-79 at the Peace and Friendship stadium to Real Madrid, suffering their 9th defeat in this season’s Euroleague.
In a match where nothing went right for Olympiacos the Greek side were defeated 73-79 by Real Madrid at the Peace and Friendship Stadium. Before the match, Printezis was ruled out due to an injury and during the later stages of the game, Matt Lojeski left with an injury which turned out to be MUCH less severe than originally thought.
It was an even game between two of the Euroleague’s best teams up until the midway point in the third quarter, where Real began to build a small lead. Mantzaris was put on the bench after committing his fourth foul of the game, allowing Llull to put Real Madrid ahead in the score.
In the fourth quarter, Real Madrid continued to increase their lead and with just over three minutes remaining, found themselves up by 9 points. A tired Olympiacos, at this point, was unable to stage a comeback as the Spanish side celebrated a 73-79 victory.
Milutinov had his best game in the Euroleague for Olympiacos, finishing with 18 points as Agravanis put on a great showing for a second consecutive match scoring 10 points. Papanikolaou finished with 13 points while Spanoulis added 9 points. For the visitors, both Llull and Randolph scored 21 points.
The results keeps Olympiacos in third place with a 19-9 record while CSKA Moscow and Real Madrid sit atop the standings with a 21-7 record. Olympiacos have secured home court advantage for the playoffs but will need a few results to go their way if they want to finish higher than third in the regular season.
