Retsos linked with possible move to Barcelona
Young Greek defender Panagiotis Retsos only transferred to Bayer Leverkusen in summer 2017, but reports in Spain are suggesting that Catalan giants Barcelona are lining up a move for the 19-year old.
Yesterday evening, Spanish website Mundo Deportivo posted a report on their official website stating that Robert Fernandez, Barcelona’s technical secretary, has been impressed with Panagiotis Retsos and is eager for him to join the Spanish club. The article mentions Barcelona’s admiration of the Greek centre-back, pointing out Retsos’ height, physicality, prowess in the air and his excellent technical ability. Current Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde used to manager Retsos’ former club Olympiacos, meaning that he has a good understanding of the Greek’s potential.
Retsos joined Bayer Leverkusen from Olympiacos ahead of the 2017/2018 campaign, going on to play in fourteen Bundesliga matches and picking up two yellow cards along the way. When making his full debut against SC Freiburg, Retsos was voted man of the match by Leverkusen’s fans. Bayer Leverkusen paid around 20 million euros for his services, however they could potentially make a profit if they do sell to Barcelona in the summer.
Despite not always being included in Bayer Leverkusen’s starting line-up, Retsos has shown enough to attract interest from one of the world’s biggest clubs. Nevertheless, it is not known if there is any truth behind the Spanish media’s reports.
