Retsos ranked world’s 12th best U20 player
The ever-growing career of young Greek defender Panagiotis Retsos just keeps on getting better. Just weeks after reportedly being linked with a move to Barcelona, the Bayer Leverkusen star was ranked the 12th best under 20 player in the world.
At the start of the week, the CIES Football Observatory organisation put together a list of the world’s top players which are under the age of 20. 19-year old centre-back Panagiotis Retsos, who came through the Olympiacos system before moving to German club Bayer Leverkusen last summer, was impressively awarded 12th position on the CIES list. The ratings are based on research and analysis on players’ performances over the past two years.
Retsos has gradually improved in the German Bundesliga since signing for Leverkusen, making 17 appearances in the league and being named in the team of the week after helping his team beat Hamburg on the weekend. According to media reports emerging from Spain, Catalan giants Barcelona are thinking of making a move for the talented Greek in the summer.
