According to sportfm.gr, Panagiotis Retsos will be the newest addition to the Greek National Team. Greece will have four key players suspended for their June 9th qualifier against Bosnia including Tzavellas, Samaris, Tachtsidis, and K. Papadopoulos and seeing that Retsos can play multiple positions, Skibbe will likely call up the Olympiacos youngster.
Retsos’ “natural” position is stopper, however Greece have multiple options in that position and Retsos will be sought to provide an additional option in the center defensive midfield position (due to the absence of Samaris and Tachtsidis). Retsos’ ability to also play right and left back, especially with Tzavellas’ absence, also makes him a valuable asset for Skibbe and Greece.
Retsos has been consistent member in Olympiacos’ lineup this season in the Superleague and Cup, but also in critical matches for the UEFA Europa League.
The German coach has already decided to call up Christos Donis and Babis Lykogiannis for the June 9th qualifier against Bosnia.
Michael Skibbe traveled to Germany to watch the DFB Pokal Cup Final between Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt to see Sokratis Papastathopoulos in action for the Dortmund side. Dortmund were victorious in the Final 2-1 with Sokratis wearing the captain’s armband for Dortmund in the second half after Reus was subbed off.
