Samaris Punches Opponent
In Benfica's match against Moreirense, Andreas Samaris punched his opponent in the stomach, but the referee did not see his actions and Samaris remained on the pitch.
As Moreirense were on the attack, the Greece international committed a foul, in which he thought that his opponent fell rather easily to win a free-kick in an inviting position. After Samaris was flagged for the foul and shown a yellow card by the referee, the 27-year old went up to his opponent and said something.
This caused a scuffle between the two teams and in the midst of the action, Samaris punched his counterpart in the stomach, which would have been a straight red card offense. However, the Greek midfielder was lucky to not see a red card as the referee did not notice the incident. Only on the replay is Samaris’ unsportsmanlike actions seen.
Samaris was subbed on in the 81st minute in a match that Benfica won 0-1 thanks to a goal from Kostas Mitroglou.
