-- Levadiakos Returns With A Win --
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 8
|Levadiakos||2 - 1||Panetolikos|
|Markovski (p) 73'
Levadiakos did not seem to be bothered by a 20 day absence in the Greek Superleague after coming away with a rather easy 2-1 victory over Panetolikos. Giakoumakis opened the score at the end of the first half for Levadiakos and after the restart Silva doubled the hosts’ lead. Markovski pulled one back from the penalty spot for Panetolikos in the 73rd minute.
Despite the close 2-1 scoreline, Levadiakos earned a rather easy victory in their match against Panetolikos. The big question for Levadiakos was if the long 20-day break (international break and last week’s game postponement at Giannina) would affect the players for their match against Panetolikos, who thrashed Kerkyra 4-0 last weekend. However, Levadiakos seemed untroubled in today’s encounter as they held their opponents to few chances in the first half while looking more of a threat for an opener. After two good opportunities from Mantzios, Levadiakos was fortunate to open the score late in the first half when Giakoumakis’ shot from outside the penalty area took a deflection and found the back of the net, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead into the break.
Levadiakos carried their momentum from the first half and two minutes into the second half they doubled their lead after Mantzios’ shot found the woodwork, setting up Silva from close range for an easy goal. Out of nowhere, Panetolikos pulled one back from the penalty spot after Markovski, who won the penalty, converted from 11-meters to make the score 2-1. Despite the goal, Levadiakos was in complete control of the game and comfortably defended their lead until the final whistle.
The win pushes Levadiakos away from the relegation zone with 7 points as Panetolikos sit on 8 points. Next weekend, Levadiakos travels to Asteras Tripolis while Panetolikos hosts PAS Giannina.
